College Football Power Rankings: 247 Sports power ranks the SEC teams

With the influx of men’s basketball news over the past four weeks, it’d be understandable to feel like you don’t have a pulse on what’s going on with the Kentucky Wildcats football program.

Spring ball has concluded, and we’re starting to get a clearer picture of exactly what this team will look like this fall. 247 Sports took upon the task of power ranking each SEC football team at this current stage.

It was no surprise to see Georgia on top, while new kid on the block Texas is ranked second in what will be their inaugural year in the conference.

I was a little disappointed to see Kentucky ranked out of the top 10 at number 12. Brad Crawford from 247 Sports noted that the Cats should be one of the faster teams in the league with Barion Brown and Dane Key.

Obviously, a lot of UK’s ultimate success will be determined by new offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan’s ability to mesh first-year QB Brock Vandagriff with those speedsters.

Crawford also acknowledged that despite losing a key piece like running back Ray Davis to the NFL, the UK should excel in the trenches with several veterans on the line.

Here is everything Crawford wrote:

Kentucky should be one of the SEC’s faster teams on offense with Barion Brown and Dane Key coming back. And despite losing running back Ray Davis to the NFL along with a pair of impact starters on defense, Mark Stoops is satisfied with both of those areas the players he has picked to assume those roles coming out of spring. Georgia quarterback transfer Brock Vandagriff and how Bush Hamdan performs as OC is paramount to the Wildcats staying above water against other SEC teams of equal or greater talent. The strength of this 2024 Kentucky team should be at the line of scrimmage where a bunch of veterans anchor both sides.

Kentucky will open up the season on Saturday, August 31st, against Southern Miss inside Kroger Field.
